Uber Introduces CO2 Emission Tracking for 'Green' Rides
Uber has introduced a groundbreaking 'Emission Savings' feature, aimed at fostering sustainable choices among users in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The feature is part of Uber Green, a service offering electric vehicles as an eco-friendly alternative. Users can now monitor the kilograms of tailpipe carbon dioxide emissions saved by opting for Uber Green rides.
Nitish Bhushan, Head of Central Operations at Uber India, highlighted the challenge of realizing individual environmental contributions and emphasized the importance of understanding the impact of sustainable choices. The Emission Savings feature is designed to bridge this gap, providing users with tangible data to make informed decisions supporting a low-emission lifestyle.
In the app's Account section, users can tap on the "Estimated CO2 saved" button to view an estimate of their saved tailpipe emissions. The feature also includes a graphic illustrating how their emissions savings compare to other metrics. Uber calculates emission savings based on the average difference between Uber Green and Uber Premier trips covering the same distance.
This initiative reflects Uber's commitment to promoting environmental awareness and encouraging users to make greener transportation choices. By empowering users with real-time data on their environmental impact, Uber aims to drive a behavioral shift towards sustainable practices and contribute to a more eco-conscious society.
